Rs 2,000 Notes No Longer Accepted As A Payment Method Starting Today On This Platform

Starting today, September 19, 2023, Rs. 2,000 notes will not be accepted by online retailer Amazon for Cash on Delivery (COD) payments or Cashloads.

“We shall no longer accept Rs. 2,000 currency notes for Cash on Delivery (COD) orders or Cashloads as of September 19, 2023. The Reserve Bank of India released guidelines on May 19, 2023, and this is in conformity with them, according to Amazon’s FAQs on utilizing Rs. 2,000 notes for Cash on Delivery (COD) Payments and Cashloads.

Amazon did highlight that their own restrictions regarding the acceptance of Rs 2,000 currency notes would apply if your order is delivered by a third-party delivery partner.

The Reserve Bank of India removed the Rs 2,000 banknotes from circulation on May 19, however, they are still recognized as legal tender. The RBI instructed banks to stop issuing banknotes with a face value of Rs 2,000 right now.

People will be allowed to deposit Rs 2,000 banknotes into their accounts and/or exchange them for notes of other denominations at any bank branch up to September 30, 2023, according to the RBI.

The introduction of the Rs 2,000 banknote in November 2016 primarily helped to immediately satisfy the economy’s demand for cash after all Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 banknotes in circulation at the time lost their legal tender validity.
